How to use PWA Checker

Written and reviewed by the PWAs.app web platform editorial team.

01

What the PWA Checker tests

The checker reads the public HTML and linked web app manifest from the URL you provide. It tests HTTPS, manifest validity, app identity, start URL, display mode, large and maskable icons, screenshots and service worker registration signals.

The score is a technical readiness indicator, not a user rating. A lower score shows where installation metadata or presentation assets need work.

02

How to improve a low PWA score

Start with failed checks because they usually block a reliable app identity. Then address warnings such as missing maskable icons, screenshots or standalone display mode.

Run the checker again after deployment. PWAs.app fetches the public production version, so local or unpublished changes are not included.

COMMON QUESTIONS

PWA Checker FAQ

Short answers about what the public tool checks and what remains under browser or website-owner control.

Is the PWA Checker free?

Yes. The public checker does not require an account. Reasonable hourly limits protect the scanning service from automated abuse.

Does a score of 100 guarantee installation everywhere?

No. Installation behaviour still depends on the browser and operating system. The score verifies public technical signals that PWAs.app can inspect consistently.

Does the checker execute my website code?

No. It retrieves bounded public HTML and manifest resources through a network-safe server-side scanner. It does not sign in or submit forms.
